WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED TO FILE A DISABILITY CLAIM (NOT EVER)!

There is a large portion of Americans who are self-reliant, hard working and diligent.  They don't ask for much help from anyone but will freely offer a neighbor help if they need it.  The folks are certainly not someone who would ever want any handouts or welfare.  The nation was built on such people.

But I want to tell you why you should never, ever feel ashamed in filing a Social Security disability claim if you are truly disabled.

It's not a handout.  It's not welfare.  It doesn't run up the national debt.

Social Security disability is an insurance program that you paid into for decades.

It's a US government backed insurance policy.  And every worker who draws a paycheck pays into it.  On your paycheck stub, you will see withholding tax for FICA (Federal Insurance Contribution Act).  That's the Social Security and Medicare premium you pay every week or every month on payday.

Some FACTS about Social Security disability:
  • The US government forces you to purchase it.
  • You pay a mandatory premium out of each paycheck for disability insurance.
  • You cannot cancel it or opt out of it (usually).
  • Social Security operates much like any other insurance company.
  • The government sets the terms under which it will pay a benefit.
  • The government has set the requirements very, very high and very strict.
  • In filing a claim, you are doing nothing more than asking the government to honor the terms of the disability insurance they forced you to buy.
  • Benefits are paid from the federal disability trust fund, funded by FICA contributions, NOT by in-budget federal taxes.
  • Disability payments are not included in the national budget or deficit.
I happen to have auto insurance with a very reputable insurance company.  Unlike Social Security, I had the opportunity to look around and compare prices--and purchase from the company I choose.

I have been paying my automobile insurance for about 62 years.  Believe me, it is not cheap.

If I have an accident tomorrow and wreck my car, do you think I will have any qualms about asking my "good neighbor" insurance company to pay my claim?  Will I feel guilty for asking them to pay?  Nope!

If you have a disability claim and file for Social Security benefits, it's the same thing as me filing on my auto insurance.  You pay for the protection, you have every right to file a claim and expect it to be paid.

It's not a handout, it's not charity, it's not welfare.  It's what's due under a contract sold to you (without your consent) by the United States Government.

If you are honestly disabled, and covered by Social Security disability insurance, follow my motto and....

"MAKE THEM PAY"

I will help you if I can.

SOCIAL SECURITY PAY INCREASE FOR 2025

Social Security benefits will increase by 2.5 percent or an average of about $48 per month in 2025.   The Social Security Administration announced the COLA increase on October 10, 2024 which will take effect in January, 2025. The Part B Medicare premium (the part you pay for Medicare) also increased from $174.20 for most beneficiaries to $185 per month. I find it interesting that the government increased the Medicare premium 5.9 percent for 2025 but only gave recipients a 2.5 percent increase in benefits. YOUR CHILDREN MAY ALSO GET DISABILITY BENEFITS!

Social Security disability may replace some income for adults who become disabled due to a physical or mental impairment.  It may also pay benefits to dependent children who are under 18 years old--or up to age 19 if they are still in high school. Dependent children are usually eligible to receive a benefit in addition to their parent who has become disabled.   Disability has an impact on the entire family.  Children continue to need food, clothing, education and medical/dental care.  Dependent's benefits from Social Security can help cover these expenses for a disabled parent. If your disability claim is being handled by a professional--an advocate or attorney--he/she will be sure to protect your children's rights to benefits.  If you are handling your own claim, be sure to notify Social Security that you have dependent children when you apply for benefits.  When benefits are approved, contact your local Social Security field office (not the he...
